Plant Based in Austin, TX

I am loving the idea of journaling while I travel to different cities, especially exploring new restaurants that are veg-friendly. I've been plant based for almost 6 years now and over the past year, I've been seeing more and more plant based options on menus. What is surprising to me is that, some of the cities I thought would not have many plant based restaurants are stepping up... and Austin, Texas is one of them.

This is my first time visiting Austin and I've only heard amazing things about this high energy and so very trendy city. I went for a friend's birthday weekend so we didn't have much time. Lucky for me, the birthday girl is vegetarian so she had no problem exploring everything I had on my vegan list.

48 Hours, 5 stops, happy bellies!

Night 1 - Dinner

SWAY - This is a modern Thai restaurant with a rooftop. Beautiful ambience and yummy tasting food. A tip here is to ask for what they can do to modify some of the dishes into vegan options or veg options. Also, get everything mild because EVERYTHING IS SPICY AF -- that's coming from a group of Asians that eat spicy food on a day to day basis ;)

what to order: thai basil eggplant, brussel sprouts, coal-roasted carrots, pad-thai jay

Day 2 - Coffee and Brunch

To be quite honest, the coffee is okay but if you are looking for that iconic "I love you so much" wall, DO IT. Then head over a couple blocks away to Mañana Coffee Shop for real tasty coffee and treats!

what to order: edamame dumplings (not vegan because of the dashi), ancient grains bowl add grilled tofu, butternut squash pizza, teriyaki quinoa bowl

Day 2 dinner & drinks

OBSESSED with this place. It's not a vegan restaurant but they sure know how to impress a non meat/dairy eater with the few dishes available. Service is above and beyond and IT IS SUCH A VIBE being there. Drinks are a must and ask your bartender or server for tips (they are all very knowledgable)

what to order: beet happening, oaxaca margarita, grilled broccolini, avocado tostada

Other options that I didn't have enough time for but will definitely be back for another round of "Plant based in Austin, part 2"

Rebel Cheese - Everything is made from plants so grab your cheeses, a glass of wine, and ENJOY!

Bistro Vonish - Elevated Vegan Cuisine

I am Flower Child - Simply & Soul-satisfying food for all dietary needs Counter Culture - Woman owned and operated, fully vegan

Dear Dairy Coffee Shop - Umm, how can you not love a coffee shop that does vegan pastries too

Thanks, Austin for opening up eyes to your amazing city and delicious plant based foods. If anyone has comments or suggestions for me, feel free to drop me a line in my contact form!
